Access to microphone and camera

Microphone

To work properly, some sites require a microphone. For example, to record voice messages or organize video conferences. Allow only trusted sites to access your microphone. Otherwise, unknown companies or malware might connect to it.

By default, when a site tries to access your microphone, Yandex Browser asks you for permission.

After you allow or deny a site access to your microphone, the Protect panel displays the Use your microphone option and the , or the  icon appears in the SmartBox. If access to microphone is denied, it will be permanent for this site. HTTPS sites are granted permanent automatic access to microphone, while HTTP sites are granted access for one session.

Allow or deny a site access to the microphone
  1. Open the site.

  2. In the SmartBox, click the connection status icon.

  3. In the window that opens, enable or disable the Use your microphone option.

  1. Click  → Settings → Websites.

  2. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced site settings.

  3. Under Access to your microphone, select the microphone from the list.

  4. Click Sites advanced settings.

  5. Find the website address on the Not allowed or Allowed tab.

    Tip

    If the list of sites is long, use the search. Press Ctrl + F (in Windows and Linux) or  + F (in macOS). In the window that opens, enter the site address.

  6. Hover your mouse cursor over the site and click Delete. The site will be moved to the next tab and allowed or denied access to the microphone, accordingly.

  7. If you have several microphones (for example, built-in and external), repeat steps 4–7 for each of them.

Deny access to microphone to all sites
  1. Click  → Settings → Websites.

  2. At the bottom of the page, click Advanced site settings.

  3. Under Access to your microphone, select the microphone.

  4. Enable Not allowed.

  5. If you have several microphones (for example, built-in and external), repeat steps 4-5 for each of them.

Video camera

To work properly, some sites require a video camera. For example, to take photos, record videos, or organize video conferences. Allow only trusted sites to access your video camera. Otherwise, unknown companies or malware might connect to it.

By default, when a site tries to access your camera, Yandex Browser asks for your permission.

After you allow or deny a site access to your camera, the Protect panel will display the Use your camera option, and the  or  icon will appear in the SmartBox. If access to camera is denied, it will be permanent for this site. HTTPS sites are granted permanent automatic access to your video camera, while HTTP sites are granted access for one session.

Deny or allow a site access to camera
  1. Open the site.

  2. In the SmartBox, click the connection status icon.
