Moving data
There are several ways to keep your data when reinstalling the OS or import it to Yandex Browser on another computer.
Via Yandex Browser synchronization
Alert
If you use multiple profiles in Yandex Browser, make sure you are using the correct profile before syncing. Otherwise, you might accidentally share your data (including passwords) with the owner of the profile that is active during syncing.
Syncing provides access to data from all your devices and data recovery when reinstalling the OS. During syncing, data is sent to the Yandex server via a secure channel. Passwords are stored in an encrypted form. The data on the server is protected by the authorization system.
You can sync the following data:
-
Passwords and cards.
-
Tabs in Other devices.
-
Settings.
-
Log in with Yandex ID and enable syncing on your device.
-
Select the data you want to sync:
-
Press → Settings → General settings → Synchronization → Synchronization Settings.
-
Turn on options to sync the data you need.
-
-
Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).
-
After uploading the data to the server, disable syncing to avoid possible failures when reinstalling the system.
-
Reinstall the OS and install Yandex Browser.
-
Enable syncing and make sure you are using the same Yandex ID. Your data will be added to Yandex Browser.
-
Log in with Yandex ID and enable syncing on your previous device.
-
Select the data you want to sync:
-
Press → Settings → General settings → Synchronization → Synchronization Settings.
-
Turn on options to sync the data you need.
-
-
Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).
-
Install Yandex Browser on your new device.
-
Enable syncing and make sure you are using the same Yandex ID. Your data will be added to Yandex Browser.
Tip
If you are using two Yandex IDs at the same time, we recommend creating a separate profile for your second account.
To move synced data from one Yandex ID to another:
-
Log in with Yandex ID to the account you want to export data from, and enable syncing.
-
Wait until your data is downloaded from the server to your profile in Yandex Browser. The download can take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data.
-
Disable syncing with this Yandex ID.
-
Log in with Yandex ID to the account you want to import data to and enable syncing.
-
Wait until your data is copied to the server (the upload may take up to 20 minutes, depending on the internet speed and the amount of data).
Delete data associated with your previous Yandex ID
1. If you have syncing enabled, disable it.
2.Log in with Yandex ID to the account you want to delete data from and enable syncing.
3.Delete synced data.
Via your personal profile
Alert
You can't move passwords, extensions, and settings using this method. For this reason, we recommend using syncing to move your data.
Your personal set of settings and data is stored locally on your computer in your personal profile. The profile is created automatically when Yandex Browser is installed. You can copy your profile to a new device or a reinstalled OS.
Data stored in your profile includes the following:
-
open tabs
-
extensions you installed
-
Some settings, such as site permissions or Yandex Browser language.
Note
We recommend moving passwords via a separate file because this is more secure. If you want to import passwords via your profile, be sure to create a master password, otherwise Yandex Browser will not be able to decrypt your passwords after you import them.
Yandex Browser profiles are stored in the User Data
folder. We recommend importing them all at once and then deleting the ones you don't need in the settings:
-
Close Yandex Browser by clicking → Advanced → Close Yandex Browser or pressing Ctrl + Shift + Q.
