Protect: partial content blocking

Sometimes dangerous elements from infected resources (banners, scripts, or sidebars) or mining scripts can show up on otherwise safe sites. Yandex Browser blocks such elements as part of its integrated security system called Protect. The data on unsafe resources is taken from a special database compiled by Yandex and our partners.

Blocking dangerous elements

If the page you want to visit contains elements from infected sites, Yandex Browser blocks them.

If you want to load blocked content:

  1. Click .
  2. In the Ad and tracker blocking section, click Settings.
  3. In the Block ads on this site section, toggle the slider to the On position.

If blocked content is a serious threat to your computer, you will not be able to load it. In this case, there will be no Unblock for tab link in the Block ads on this site section.

Because Yandex Browser only downloads secure elements, the page may be formatted incorrectly.

Disable blocking

Alert

If you want to disable blocking dangerous content, you will have to disable protection against malware and malicious sites in Yandex Browser completely. We strongly recommend that you don’t do this.

To disable dangerous content blocking:

  1. Press  → Settings.

  2. Go to the Security tab at the top of the page.

  3. In the Protection from malicious files and websites section, uncheck the box labeled Run security checks on websites and downloaded files.

Use the same algorithm to enable the blocking of dangerous content.

Blocking mining scripts

Mining is often used for issuing cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin. The computer makes calculations and its owner is awarded a certain amount of cryptocurrency.

In the case of hidden mining, the miners use the resources of other people's computers and mobile devices to make the calculations. The mining code might be hidden in JavaScript on website pages. This code can't be called malicious in the classical sense, but it actively utilizes RAM, consumes the battery, and heats the computer components.

To prevent miners from earning money using your computer's resources, Yandex Browser blocks mining scripts from sites. Scripts can be blocked even if they're yet unknown to the browser. The browser analyzes the CPU load generated by the sites and uses this data to block previously unknown mining scripts.

Note

The browser also blocks other hidden mining options, such as those that use extensions.

If you want to stop blocking mining scripts, disable ad filters in the browser.
