Where are the settings?

Click  → Settings.

To go to the necessary setting quickly, enter its name in the search box in the upper-left corner of the page.

Yandex Browser start page

Instead of the start page, Yandex Browser opens either your Tableau (with your most frequently visited pages) or the tabs that were open during your last session. By default, Yandex Browser opens the tabs.

  1. Click   → Settings → Interface.
  2. Under Tabs, select Restore tabs at startup.

Set Yandex as the start page
Click  → Settings → Interface and select Restore tabs at startup and Open yandex.ru if there are no saved tabs. You can also pin a tab instead of the home page. To do this, right-click on the tab and click Pin tab in the context menu.

How do I change the context menu appearance?

If you think there are too many commands in the context menu:

  1. Click   → Settings → Tools.
  2. Under Context menu, select Compact context menu.

This will move some commands to the Advanced section.

When you select words or phrases, a panel with the Search Yandex and Copy commands pops up automatically above them. If you don't need it:

  1. Click   → Settings → Tools.
  2. Under Context menu, select Show Search and Copy buttons when text is selected.

What happens when Yandex Browser settings are reset?

Resetting your Yandex Browser settings means that the original settings will be restored:

To reset Yandex Browser settings:

  1. Click   → Settings → System.
  2. At the bottom of the page, click Reset all settings.
  3. Confirm the reset.

How do I pin Yandex Browser to the taskbar?

In the macOS 10.14 Mojave operating system, access to application data is automatically restricted. If you want Yandex Browser to be able to access data from other applications (for example, other browsers):

  1. In the upper-left corner, click  → System preferences.
  2. Click Security & Privacy.
  3. Click Privacy.
  4. Click in the lower-left corner of the window.
  5. Go to Accessibility and select Yandex Browser.

How to restore standard Linux window appearance

By default, Yandex Browser doesn't use the Linux system window frame and changes control design. If you wish to restore the standard appearance of windows and controls on Linux:

  1. In the SmartBox, enter browser://flags.
  2. Type the #enable-system-frame flag in the search bar.
  3. Select the System window controls option.
  4. Restart Yandex Browser and check the results.
Attention. This setting is experimental. Turning it on might cause problems in Yandex Browser. If you encounter problems, disable the option and us the form to write to us.

Why do I need background mode?

In the background, some of Yandex Browser functions work after you close the browser, and start automatically when you turn on your computer. The Windows notification area features the Yandex Browser icon even if the browser is closed.

Advantages of Yandex Browser running in the background:

  • Antivirus databases are updated more often.
  • Yandex Browser opens faster at startup. This matters if there are many open tabs.
  • You receive notifications from websites.
  • Background extensions (such as proxy extensions) work.
Note. When running in the background, Yandex Browser doesn't track user actions. But it uses your computer resources.

To prevent Yandex Browser from running in the background:

  1. Click   → Settings → System.
  2. Under Autorun and background mode, deselect Enable background mode.

How can I remove the Yandex Browser icon from the notification area?

If you close Yandex Browser, but the icon remains in the notification area, the Yandex Browser is running in background mode. To terminate all Yandex Browser processes, right-click its icon in the notification area and select Close browser.

To prevent Yandex Browser from running in the background:

  1. Click   → Settings → System.
  2. Under Autorun and background mode, deselect Enable background mode.
